Baker Stately Homes George III Satinwood & Mahogany Serpentine Chest Dresser

About the Item

"A spectacular English George III style chest of drawers by Baker Furniture. Part of the Stately Homes Collection, circa last quarter 20th century. The Stately Homes Collection encompasses recreations from furniture in palaces and castles of England, Russia and beyond. Made from Satinwood with crossbanded mahogany over a serpentine frame with canted angles. Features three graduated dovetailed drawers. Drawer fronts are centered by a ribboned floral marquetry inlay and flanked by pierced brass drawer pulls. The shapely top has impressive marquetry inlay with medallions and continuous tulips making up the shape of a flower. The case is raised over splayed feet and has a naturally Distressed finish. Marked Baker along the inside of uppermost drawer. Great for use as an entry console or dresser. Sir Humphry Wakefield an English Baronet is a foremost authority on English antiques and architecture. A consultant to Baker's Stately Homes program since he founded it in 1980, Wakefield selects extraordinary designs from the palaces and castles of England, Ireland, Scotland and Russia for the craftsmen at Baker to recreate. Through these pieces, the Stately Homes collection shows that true elegance and luxury are timeless, spanning centuries, cultures and lifestyles. That’s why the furniture in this collection is at ease in today's homes as it is in the estates where the originals are still used. Provenance: The Cliveden House - Oxfordshire, England (circa: 1790). Cliveden has been the home to a Prince of Wales, two Dukes, an Earl, and finally the The Right Honorable Viscountess Astor. Nancy Astor was an American-born British politician who was the first woman seated as a Member of Parliament."
