About the Item

An English Regency period five-drawer commode with banding on the drawers and ogee bracket feet from the early 19th century. This English chest, circa 1820 features a rectangular top with beveled edge over two smaller drawers surmounting three larger ones. The chest is raised on four ogee bracket feet. In typical Regency manner, this piece presents an elegant sobriety with the decoration reduced to the brass hardware. The simplicity of the chest is nicely balanced by the banding on the drawers, creating a play on the wood grain. The commode advocates the simplicity required by the Regency movement very much sought by collectors inspired by the Sheraton and Hepplewhite styles. Perhaps set in a bedroom, this English 1820s oak commode would bring a charming addition to any home.
