18th Century French Louis XV Commode With Marble Top
About the Item
Classic Louis XV French commode of provincial style with two top drawers over two bottom drawers. The drawers are decorated with carved, lozenge shaped decoration and have hardware which appear original. The marble top is original and is black with white veining, with hand-cut ogee edge repeating the soft curve of the drawers front. Likewise, the bottom of the commode is softly curved and the legs end in a modified cabriole leg.
Hand made cabinetry with mortise and tenon joints and large dovetail drawer joints typical of early provincial pieces.
18th C. French commodes are increasingly difficult to find. This commode is in its original condition and embodies the skills of 18th century French cabinetmakers in the provinces.
