About the Item

This magnificent cabinet was crafted in the Napoleon III style inspired by ancient Roman art in Paris by Charles Guillaume Diehl titled Diehl 19 r Michel-le-Comte PARIS. Many textures on the cabinet feature the symmetry of Neoclassicism. The cabinet has only one door and when opend they reveal three wide shelves. The top of the cabinet is covered with white Carrara marble. The material for the cabinet is rare and durable ebony veneer, which is French-polished on the outside in black. The framing edges and embelllishments are carved with gilt bronze to enhance the luxurious and royal beauty of the cabinet. The top rail of the cabinet is decorated with gilded torches, ribbon tied bows, beautiful friezes accompanied by splendid acanthus scroll. The front panels of the cabinet are divided in three, each one decorated differently but similar framing friezes. In the central door panel there is a medallion with a portrait of a beautiful girl, decorated on top with a laurel wreath with berries as well as impressive ribbon bow. The strikingly gorgeous but equally graceful beauty of women brings feminine appeal to the cabinet. The side panels at first glance look very similar due to the long vertical ivy-grape vine, however one contains musical instruments, such as : harp, trumpet, lute and the other has tea pot, goblet, pitcher and most likely a serving tray. The luxury French cabinet has round 4 low legs. The round sole offers a softer and more wonderful feeling than the square sole. Overall, the cabinet was made with utmost precision, which has been preserved remarkably throughout the period of time.
