French 19th Century Napoleon III Period Ebony Ormolu Gilt Metal & Marble Commode
About the Item
An exquisite French 19 century Louis XVI st. Napoleon III period ebony, giltwood, ormolu, gilt metal, and Brocatelle d'Espagne marble commode signed Mon Theau Thieffine Succr Serrurier Paris. The three drawer chest is raised by most elegant circular tapered legs with fine topie shaped ormolu sabots, beautiful spiral fluted designs, and lovely reeded top caps. Above each leg are superb block rosettes flanking the straight frieze decorated with a fitted fluted gilt metal band. Each drawer is decorated with striking richly chased berried laurel ormolu pulls and exquisite pierced berried laurel branch keyhole escutcheons tied with a ribbon and family crest framed within a fine beaded giltwood band. Leading up each side are outstanding lightly tapered fluted columns with superb richly carved acanthus leaves and elegant mottled top caps. Above is the original fitted Brocatelle d'Espagne marble top framed within a fine mottled gilt metal band.
