About the Item

Beautiful Louis 15 style tomb chest of drawers opening with four drawers. This elegant piece of furniture in native wood marquetry with a geometric pattern and points has bronze ornaments such as the drawer handles and the shoes decorated with plant motifs typical of the Louis 15 style. The top is in red Saint Pons marble. Known as red marble from Languedoc-Roussilon, Rouge de Saint Pons is similar to both Rouge de France and Rouge Incarnat depending on the places where it is extracted. Red veined with white or gray with small black veins, this marble is known and recognized particularly in Versailles where it was very popular with architects mainly for the creation of furniture. France - XX Century The Louis XV style succeeds the Regency style. It is also called the Rocaille or Rococo style. The inventors of the Louis XV style are true creators in the modern sense of the term, revolutionizing the way of looking at furniture and interior decoration. In this respect it can be compared to the Gothic style and Art Nouveau in the sense that they represent creation and technical advances in the use of materials. The Pompadour, transition and Louis XVI styles will succeed the Louis XV style, which will remain an inspiration found in each of these 3 styles. Many Louis XV style rooms can still be found today in the Palace of Versailles.
