George II Mahogany Chest of Drawers, Circa 1730 – Original Ogee Feet & Brushing

About the Item

An exceptional example of early Georgian craftsmanship, this George II mahogany chest of drawers dates to circa 1730 and showcases the elegance and restraint of 18th-century English design. Crafted from solid mahogany with a lustrous, time-earned patina, the chest features four finely graduated drawers, each oak-lined and retaining its original English cock beading—hallmarks of superior period construction. A rare and highly desirable feature is the integrated brushing slide, set just above the drawers. Originally intended for garment preparation or writing, it remains both functional and evocative of the chest’s aristocratic provenance. The chest stands confidently on its original ogee bracket feet and retains its original brass handles and escutcheons, naturally oxidised to a soft verdigris that enhances its authenticity. Minor professional restorations have sensitively preserved the chest’s structural integrity, while the surface bears only gentle signs of age consistent with nearly three centuries of careful use. A collector’s piece and a true investment in period English furniture, this George II chest blends timeless style with practical elegance, perfect for refined interiors or heritage collections.
