About the Item

A Very Good Quality 18th Century, George III Period, Mahogany Serpentine Chest, Having Superbly Figured Shaped Top With Attractive Wide Crossbanded Decoration, Over Baized Brushing Slide And Four Long Drawers, With Replacement Old Brass Swan Neck Handles, Raised On Original Bold Shaped Bracket Feet With Elegant Inlaid And Crossbanded Decoration.  This very elegant and attractive georgian serpentine chest is constructed from richly figured, dense mahogany timbers and retains a superb colour and patina.  It is elegantly designed with a lot of thought being put into small details, the result of which is a fabulously attractive item of Georgian 18th century furniture. A couple of examples of the attention to detail are the lovely figuring to the mahogany timbers used for the wide crossbanding and the feet which are banded and inlaid to great effect. It is also a good bold serpentine shape. Not unusually for an item of this period it has replacement brass swan neck handles, but interestingly the set of handles which have been put on to it are very much of the style and design it would originally have sported and due to the fact that they are also old handles they could easily pass for original to the untrained eye. The lovely bracket feet are original as well which is a nice touch. The overall quality of the construction, in combination with the elegant, attractive form mean that this chest is absolutely perfect for a whole host of spaces around the home, or even office. As with all items we offer for sale this Georgian Mahogany Chest Of Drawers has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, specialist trained, antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale to ensure that it is in excellent condition and ready for immediate placement within the home.
