Japanese Antique Black Drawer Storage 1860s-1900s / Tansu Sideboard Wabisabi
About the Item
This is an old drawer storage made in Japan.
It was made during the Meiji period (1860s-1900s) and is a valuable antique piece of furniture filled with Japanese craftsmanship. The main material is composed of cedar wood, and the interior of the drawers is made of paulownia wood, which has excellent mothproofing properties. The handles are made of iron, and the solid construction still holds up over the years.
The entire piece is carefully finished in black lacquer, and the design, which is devoid of any decoration, is simple to the utmost. The surface gloss and fine scratches show that it has been carefully handled by its former owner and passed down through the generations, while being repaired many times.
The drawers all open and close smoothly, making it practical enough. The interior has been cleaned, so it can be safely incorporated into modern life. It looks beautiful not only as storage furniture, but also as a stand or sideboard on which to place art pieces.
