Japanese Rare Antique Wooden Drawer/1740/Edo Period/Wabi Sabi Tansu

About the Item

This is a wooden drawer manufactured in 1740 in the mid-Edo period of Japan. The wood is made of paulownia wood. It is a wood that is often used for high-end furniture that is light, resistant to moisture, and has little deformation. The metal fittings are made of iron. And this is a drawer that was used in a temple. At the bottom of the drawer is written Genbun 5 (= 1740) and "Sourinji". The year of manufacture and the name of the temple that owned it are written. The temple is probably a temple in Shizuoka Prefecture. Such drawers rarely have the date of manufacture written on them, but there are few extant drawers from the middle of the Edo period, and this can be said to be one of the most valuable materials. It has been stored without being thrown away until now because it was used carefully. This drawer was used to store documents. It has a very good atmosphere that makes you feel the old days. The drawer opens and closes very smoothly and can be used without any problems. In addition, since it is very old, traces of insect bites can be seen here and there. Since the photograph is published, please confirm it well. Also, please note that fine powder may fall from the hole due to vibration during delivery.
