Japanese vintage urushi small Kiri tansu box chest of drawers, wabi sabi mingei
About the Item
Japanese vintage small box tansu chest of drawers, Kohikidashi, fully made of Kiri (Paulownia).
Refinished by seller with traditional black Urushi lacquer, persimmon tannin & burnt pine ink.
Product of circa 1950-1980s (mid to late Showa era), estimate from the style & conditions - from Tohoku area, Japan.
Smooth opening & closing operation on all drawers.
All of three drawer handles are replaced by seller to the vintage ones, since the original had been missing at some time in the past.
So the bit holes are remained open (showed in pictures), no functional issues as it is, but I can fix it if needed, about a week for extra works.

product of late Edo period, estimate 1850s- 1860s - about 160+ years-old medium sized tansu (chest of drawers) with 5 drawers.
Finished with traditional Urushi lacquer remains well, and some old paper labels still remained, both giving a good wabi sabi touch to the item.

108 years-old wooden small tansu (chest of drawers) with 4 drawers.
Finished with traditional Urushi lacquer. The original laquer remains well & gives a good wabi sabi touch.
Each handles are partly covered with Boro (hand-woven, indigo dyed cotton cloth) - this is another wabi sabi element of this tansu.
