About the Item

Late 17th century William and Mary walnut chest on stand circa 1690. Good quality 2 piece William and Mary period chest on original base. Shaped cornice to the top surface with a 2 over 3 drawer layout below.  Each drawer cross banded with decorative brass handles.  While being restored it could be seen that this chest had been fitted with 3 previous types of handles and knobs during it's life, which is normal due to changes in fashion. Top sits on a base of a further deep drawer, supported by 4 cabriole legs with carving to the knee, finishing on a pad foot. Evidence of dead inactive/treated worm to drawer fronts and sides.  Restoration to top surface due to age split.  Expected surface marks for a piece of furniture over 300 years old and still ready for everyday use.
