About the Item

Louis XV commode hand-made in France in the early 1800s using oak. The commode features three rows of overlay drawers, on the top and bottom the chest has as single, large drawer, whereas in the middle we find two smaller drawers on each side of a central division. The top drawer was repaired using original materials at some point in the past, and that is why it does not have dovetail joints, however, the others all do. The sides are made of flat, chamfered panels, and the top features three boards with ogee edges nailed to the case. The front corners of both the top and the case are rounded, and the case corners are decorated with a small inset carving. The chest apron is serpentine on three sides and decorated with a thin carved line. The chest still sits on its original cabriole legs. Overall this is a large and beautiful chest of drawers that can provide plenty of functional space. It light color and delicate decorations make it look smaller than it really is, making a perfect piece for whoever has limited space but desires decoration as well as storage. The color and overall look make this a perfect piece for a country home, beach house or cottage.
