About the Item
This 18th century Louis XV style commode is an exquisite example of the artistic tastes and refined craftsmanship of the time. The body of the piece has a distinctive bombé shape, a hallmark of the Rococo style, with the sides and front curving gracefully outwards. Intricate marquetry covers the surface throughout, showcasing floral and foliate designs. Ornate hand caste ormolu bronze mounts with scrolling and floral motifs adorn the corners, drawer handles, skirt, legs and keyhole escutcheon. The chest stands on gracefully curved legs and is topped with an elegant white marble cut to mimic the curvilinear lines of the piece.
