About the Item
French Transition Commode in Satinwood and Kingwood, Circa 1770
Exquisite French Transition commode, crafted around 1770, showcasing the refined artistry of 18th-century French cabinetmakers. This elegant chest of drawers features a harmonious combination of satinwood and kingwood veneers, beautifully framed by delicate green-colored wood inlays that highlight the natural tones of the satinwood panels.
The commode is adorned with its original brass and bronze fittings, which enhance the warm glow of the wood, and is crowned with a finely veined marble top, adding both durability and luxury. A masterpiece of the Louis XV to Louis XVI Transition period, this piece captures the shift from curving Rococo lines to the neoclassical balance and symmetry of the late 18th century.
Professionally refinished, the commode is in excellent condition, ready to bring elegance to a bedroom, entryway, or formal living space. Its craftsmanship, historical significance, and timeless design make it an ideal acquisition for collectors and interior designers seeking authentic French antiques.

Louis XV Chest of Drawers, France, 1770
Located in Belmont, MA
This gorgeous French Louis XV chest of drawers dates back to around 1770. It was made during the so called Transition period, the time between Louis XV and Louis XVI. It already shows the plain and stricter design of the Louis XVI period, but has still some playful marquetry decor details which draw from the more pompous Louis XV style. The three drawers commode stands on four cabriole legs with bronze sabots. Between the first and the second drawer is a decorated bronze band. This beautiful chest of drawers has its original wooden top with its veneer decor matching the decor of the front and sides.
The Transition commode has been expertly refinished in our workshop.
The price includes costs for the exquisite restoration and the international shipping from Europe...
