About the Item

Stamped Stumpff and Ohneberg.
The shaped, eared breccia marble top above two drawers with satinwood geometrical frieze and three panels inlaid sans
traverse with musical trophies, above a shaped apron with a lion-mask mount, flanked by canted corners, the sides inlaid
with a vase, on cabriole legs and scroll feet, stamped once 'J.STUMPFF' and 'JME' and once 'M. OHNEBERG'.
Jean Chrysostome Stumpff, maître in 1766.
Martin Ohneberg, maître in 1773.
A Louis XV commode stamped by Ohneberg with closely related marquetry was sold anonymously Sotheby's New York,
22 May 1997, lot 229. It is conceivable that Stumpff supplied the carcase of the commode offered here, while Ohneberg provided the marquetry.
