About the Item

Amazing small chest of drawers "SAUTEUSE," Transition style, SXIX, France. On marble Bréche d, Alep original Frontal framed in 3 sections, the central one collected a cartouche with representation of the musical instruments, identifying the Louis XVI period. Divided into 2 registers with bronze handles in the shape of olive crowns. Skirt enriched with a golden bronze trim that is completed with the side profiles. Slightly galve legs finished in bronze sablots. Louis XV and Louis XVI Transition Style Commode, fin. S. XVIII - France Exquisite small chest of drawers in the Transition Style between Louis XV and Louis XVI, made in France, around 1790, Jean-Charles Ellaume workshop. It features an impressive Brech d'Alep marble top that rests on a mixtilinear front with two large registers, with twin ormolú handles in the shape of a laurel leaf. The chest of drawers stands on galveada legs, the two front ones with sabots. All these fittings are made of mercury-gilt bronze and then chiselled. However, this piece stands out for the marquetry that it presents on three of its sides, where different fruit wood veneers are used that provide a rich tonal variety to the proposed geometric pattern, as well as other ornaments with chivalric lacework. It is complete with the original locks. Fine lines and typical of the time, a chest of drawers of the highest quality, deserving of a place of honor in the home. Origin Swiss private collection. Transition Style Made just at the time of transition between the Louis XV style and Louis XVI. During this period, characteristics of both styles were mixed, as can be seen in this piece. The Louis XV is identified with the Rococo, including a more profuse and detailed decoration, while the Louis XVI contrasts with the previous one for its simplicity, which once again appreciates the rigor of geometric shapes and straight lines, an inspiration that it receives directly from classical architecture. It is characterized by lightness, harmony and proportion, leaving aside the heaviness and excess of the styles it follows. It stands as a more discreet and elegant style. It is an exquisite, refined and timeless piece, suitable for any space and environment, to which it will bring great elegance. It is ideal to combine with modern art and design. Dimensions: 81 x 68 x 38 cm. Very good condition for its age and use. A piece of great elegance and timeless beauty for any space.
