About the Item
18th Century Baroque Chest Of Drawers
Southern Germany
Walnut
around 1760
Dimensions: H x W x D: 79 x 119 x 70 cm
Description:
Fantastic baroque chest of drawers with good proportions and fantastic marquetry work.
Thick walnut saw veneer on softwood veneer.
Three-tier chest of drawers standing on ball feet.
The front is concave-convex curved, the top follows this shape. The skirting board and the edge of the top are made of individual pieces of end grain laid together, typical of the period and region.
The drawers are veneered with interlocking plum and oak frames. We also see narrow maple string inlays. The centre panels, around the keyhole fittings, are particularly emphasised by a slightly darker veneer.
The striking fittings with floating putti also bear witness to the French influence on the carpenters' guild in southern Germany, around Munich.
The sides of the chest of drawers are characterised by star-shaped framing and neatly mirrored panels.
The top of the chest of drawers is also particularly beautiful. The surrounding edge is veneered with straight-grained walnut, the veneer is mitred at the corners. A frame made of plum follows the shape of the body, with further winding marquetry in the centre.
Condition:
Restored and ready to use. The drawers run well and smoothly, the locks work perfectly.
In an older restoration, the feet were added according to the old model. In addition, the sides of the drawers were grooved for better guidance, so that the drawers are now guided by side rails.

Louis XV Chest of Drawers, France, 1770
Located in Belmont, MA
This gorgeous French Louis XV chest of drawers dates back to around 1770. It was made during the so called Transition period, the time between Louis XV and Louis XVI. It already shows the plain and stricter design of the Louis XVI period, but has still some playful marquetry decor details which draw from the more pompous Louis XV style. The three drawers commode stands on four cabriole legs with bronze sabots. Between the first and the second drawer is a decorated bronze band. This beautiful chest of drawers has its original wooden top with its veneer decor matching the decor of the front and sides.
The Transition commode has been expertly refinished in our workshop.
The price includes costs for the exquisite restoration and the international shipping from Europe...
