About the Item
An exquisite Louis-Philippe period chest of drawers, circa 1850, crafted in beautifully bookmatched walnut burl. This piece features four drawers, including a concealed doucine drawer cleverly integrated into the upper apron, a signature of refined 19th-century French cabinetry.
The richly figured walnut showcases a symmetrical and flame-like grain pattern across the façade and sides, selected with great care by the artisan. The structure is solid wood, assembled using traditional tenon and mortise joints, while the drawers are dovetailed for strength and authenticity.
Topping this elegant chest is a stunning rosé marble with delicate white veining, finely molded along the edges in a graceful “paire de fesses” contour — a detail highly sought after by collectors.
Original keyhole escutcheons (known as “entrée fil”) remain intact, while the working key is later additions. The drawers do not lock. The interior has been fully cleaned and is ready to store your most treasured items.
This piece was discovered in a grand residence in France’s Loire Valley, a region renowned for its rich history and châteaux. It has not been restored and retains its original warm patina, offering both character and authenticity to any refined interior.
