Pair of Architect Meyer H Loomstein White Lacquered Chests with Greek Key Frames

About the Item

Pair of classical modern matching chests designed by St. Louis Modernist Architect Meyer H. Loomstein and built by his furniture studio Guild Craftsmen in the 1940s. Shown in white lacquer, outer frame has fluted border, similar to a Greek key form and nickel hardware. Similar to period pieces by Loren Jackson for Grosfeld House. This pair shown above are SOLD, have another rare set with angled lucite hardware. New photos coming soon. Dimensions: 39" W x 20.5" D x 39" H. Info on Loomstein & photos of his architecture : These chests were made around the same time as his commission to retro fit the interior and and exterior facade of the new headquarters for Dorsa Clothing company in the Garment district. It included a Morris Lapidus style interior with lots of curved lines, clouds soffits and a dramatic sunken stage where fashion shows were hosted. Sadly this interior has now been destroyed due lack of creativity to repurpose the space. Loomstein later did more mid-century style home as seen in the other images, now demolished too. Meyer Loomstein also used Russian / New York and for a short time St. Louis artist Sascha Schnittmann, for sculpture in his projects as seen in the round house with figurative copper panels next to front door and The Man of Force of Architecture next to the front door next to his own residence, often used them in his commercial projects as well. See Schnittmann's bronze sculpture in my other listings Some photos sourced from Belt-STL
