About the Item

This is a pair of bow front chest on chests / highboys that were made in England, circa 1820. Each chest has a beautiful, well layered crown molding to the top. The upper half of the chest has 2 small drawers over 3 long drawers that are graduated in size. There is a pull-out dressing slide / brushing slide above the top drawer on the lower half of the chest. The lower half of the chest has 3 long drawers that are graduated in size. The fronts of all the drawers and the face of the crown molding on the front and both sides are banded in Walnut with a string inlay of satinwood and Kashmir Walnut ( Kashmir Walnut is the finest cut of Burr Walnut ) to the center of each inlay. There are vertical Inlays of Satinwood on the right and left of each drawer and down the middle of each drawer and in the middle of the face of the crown molding. Both of the right and left sides of each chest are banded in Walnut with a Herringbone Walnut Inlay followed by a satinwood banding with a string inlay of ebony and a beautiful, highly figured Walnut to the middle. Each chest sits on well shaped splayed bracket feet. The brass handles are of the finest quality. This pair of chests were bought directly out of a home near Leeds England. At some time in their life they have been restored and finished and are in spectacular physical condition and finish. Chest on chests of this quality, age and wood combination are incredibly difficult to find and nearly impossible to find as a pair. This is as good as it gets. Each chest measures 46 in. wide (at the crown molding ) x 24 1/2 in. deep ( at the crown molding ) x 73 1/4 in. tall.
