About the Item
A handsome and wonderfully designed pair of Italian 18th century Louis XVI period Walnut and Ormolu commodes. Each stunning commode with all of its original hardware is raised by four square tapered legs decorated by triangular Burl Walnut inlays on all sides and bands around the top cap while being supported on block feet. Above the straight front apron are three similarly decorated and separated rectangular drawers that contain a centrally located oval keyhole escutcheon flanked by two solid circular pulls with urn figures in the center. Each drawer has Burl Walnut veneers around the outer edges and a large scaled veneer in the center decorated with Rinceau scrolling foliate designs around the keyhole escutcheon. Extending upward and along each corner are fine pyrograved designs that flank the three central drawers. Both sides display large scale squared Burl Walnut veneers edged with additional fine Burl Walnut bands. In the center of each Burl Walnut veneer on both sides are Rinceau veneered foliate designs. The top of each commode showcases quarter veneered Burl Walnut decorations also edged with additional Burl Walnut bands and display a beautiful Rosette inside a circular veneered band.
