About the Item

What a handsome chest of drawers! The two-tiered case has two overlay drawers in the top gallery, upon a three over three drawer lower case. The top row of three drawers comprises two short drawers with softly folded ogee fronts, with a square block-fronted drawer in the middle. These sit above three long drawers, slightly graduating top to bottom. All drawers are dovetailed by hand and have original knobs , though the brasses are replacements. The case has a muscular presence with bold convex unadorned corbels mounted on the front corners. Then the front stiles end in delicate integral feet with a fancy scalloped front rail. This piece has a rich polished finish in shades of deep pumpkin. Unfortunately it has a number of cigarette burns on the case top,

What a handsome chest of drawers! It’s a long time since we last offered a Scottish chest of drawers and this one is a beauty. The piece is built in two sections, necessary for negotiating narrow passages and staircases. The upper section has three deep drawers with the flow of their serpentine fronts unbroken by knobs or pulls. Instead the drawer fronts have finger pulls carved into their undersides. These are flanked by serpentine corbels with a deep flute in the center. The 6.5"high splashback is removable, making the height 48.5". The lower section has three slightly graduated drawers, inset, with wooden knobs. They are flanked by almost full columns, banded, ending in a tall turned foot...
