About the Item
We are delighted to offer for sale very rare circa 1780 Continental Parquetry and Marquetry inlaid chest of drawers
A very good looking and highly decorative chest of drawers, they are heavily inlaid on all visible sides, the work is absolutely sublime with very few losses which are a credit to the craftsmanship. The drawers are made from Walnut and fruitwood hence the mixture of colours
The drawers include 2 original keys, the locks are temperamental but they work, not bad considering they are the best part of 240 years old from new
We have lightly restored them to include a clean wax and polish, I can have them fully restored to include replacing the couple of small pieces of timber and then a wash back and French polish to make them gallery ready. I haven’t done it because they don’t need the work and I believe in keeping antique furniture with the original patina however if the new owner wishes I can have it priced up accordingly

18th Century Italian Marquetry Chest Of Drawers Museum Quality, Milan ca. 1760
Located in Lichtenberg, AT
An absolute masterpiece of mid 18th century Italian craftsmanship is this unbelievable artfully crafted marquetry chest of drawers out of Milan. Made around 1760 with highest attention to details, this one of a kind museum-quality commode is not only a precious item of antique furniture, much more it is a real smart investment. The very time-consuming restoration of this masterpiece took us more than 9 weeks and has been done by our most experienced master of restoration. The ultimate goal was it to restore it the old way to keep the unbelievable charme of this valuable 18th century dresser. With an age of more than 260 years, this remarkable rare chest of drawers comes with an elegant shaped body made of spruce and poplar, elaborately set nutwood/ cherry veneer and incredible marquetry works all over this unique italian commode. Providing two large drawers, this outstanding 18th century dresser is adorned by fantastic looking, inlayed depicitions of women surrounded by extensively designed round frames made of maple, nut and plum wood. The largest depiction on the front even runs over both drawers. The top plate is an absolute highlight, impressing with this amazing worked 3D-effect frame made of fine ebony, maple and plum wood which looks like a spiral. The same design has also been used on the front of this precious chest of drawers. The second frame with a slight green shine has been additionally surrounded by thin maple threads. Other exceptional 3D effect maple inlays in form of chain links can be found on both sides of the front pilasters. This exceptional "chain" effect is reinforced by so-called "Schwarlot" paintings - a technique which confers it this special depth. An incredibly crafted, one of a kind 18th century Italian chest of drawers...
