Rosewood and Mahogany Chest of Drawers, Louis XV / Louis XVI Transition – Late 1

About the Item

Three-drawer chest of drawers veneered with rosewood, mahogany, and various woods, topped with Aleppo breccia marble. The first of these drawers, in the upper part, features a raised front with a mahogany rim and marquetry with a staggered composition of lemonwood and ebony. The second and third drawers, deeper, feature marquetry surrounded by a composition of lemonwood and ebony with Greek angles. The crosspiece is hidden, allowing continuity of the motifs between the two fronts. Each drawer is equipped with two scalloped ring pull handles, original chiseled mascarons, a ribboned brass entry, and an authentic working lock with a later key. This piece of furniture is embellished with a corbel decorated with acanthus leaves and a tureen. The uprights are beautifully accented by three double lemonwood and amaranth fillets with bronze trim and sabots on curved legs. The slightly concave, projecting sides are similarly crafted, featuring identical geometric motifs. This chest of drawers is particularly interesting for its lines, its size, and the warm tones of its wood species. ******** Period: Late 19th century Excellent condition.
