Small Louis XV Commode Attibuted to Criard
About the Item
A small Louis XV commode attributed to Antoine Mathieu Criaerd, called “Criard“ (circa 1727-1787, maître from 1747), with two small drawers and one long drawer, with a serpentine shaped front, veneered 'en fougère' on the sides and 'quarter foil' on the drawers, on a carcase of oak, set with foliate bronze mounts. The slab is of breche d' Alep marble. The corners veneered in herring-bone pattern that continues along the legs, a veneering pattern actually prevailing at the beginning of the 18th century.
