Swedish Gustavian Period Carved Wood Chest, Scraped to Original Finish

About the Item

A Swedish Gustavian period chest, scraped to the original colors, from the turn of the 18th and 19th century. This antique chest from Sweden features clean lines outlined in magnificent carved details. The rectangular shaped top has dentil carved trimming just below its overhang, with a reeded upper frieze and x-carved accents at the top of each side post. The case houses five graduated and dove-tailed drawers (one is hidden within the upper frieze), each fitted with a pair of simple ring pulls and an escutcheon at their center, and flanked with fluted column-style side posts. The chest is raised nicely above the ground upon a removable platform base (see images for more detail on this), with greek-key and floral medallions, and carved squared feet. This piece has been scraped to its original Swedish falu paint coloring (a warm burnt red). Note that some repairs have been made to the feet and that some hardware is original, but not all. This Gustavian era Swedish chest of drawers has a timeless design which will make a wonderful decorative storage piece for a bedroom, office or living room- And with a nice height of nearly 4 feet tall for displaying decorative art or other collected objects atop.
