About the Item

William and Mary walnut chest having"oyster burl" veneers bound by circles of string inlay on the molded edge top which rests above two smaller side by side drawers over two graduated drawers all fronted with figured oyster burl and bound by yew wood cross banding. The best sides are veneered in a Union Jack motif. The case has a molded base and is supported on bun feet. Dimensions: 30" H, 33 1/2" W, 20 1/4" D Condition: the chest has been conserved to insure proper usability and has maintenance restoration to the veneers. The feet have been replaced and the brasses are nineteenth century William & Mary style replacements. Splits and lifting of veneers to the right side with splits to the banding around the drawers. Trim is loose, with splits to the inlay and losses with chipping to verso. Please see photos for details of condition. The strong points of this piece are the desirable small size and highly figured oyster burl veneers which make it an exceptional example of the period.
