About the Item
Grand Rapids Bookcase and Chair Company commissioned for their Hastings Square Collection, William Pahlmann, head director at Lord & Taylor in Manhattan and famed author of the syndicated, "A Matter of Taste." Pahlmann eventually established his own firm. Like Russel Wright, Pahlmann was an influential force on American Culture. He played a major role in establishing Interior Design's place in postwar America. Through the 50's, 60's and 70's, he pioneered the eclectic interior, wall groupings of art and landed historical commissions including the Four Seasons Restaurant, the costliest restaurant ever assembled at the time, thanks in part to his work with Philip Johnson.
This line was selected by House Beautiful editors for the Pacesetter Home of 1953.
