Line inlays continue throughout the plinth, with the top banded in ebonized trim. The top drawer is inlaid with a pair of opposing griffins whose tails sprout oak leaves. A mythological scene in the center arch of the middle drawer appears to be a depiction of Ariadne (daughter of King Minos of Crete) and Dionysus (or Bacchus: the god of wine, mirth and an itinerant wanderer).
