The soft gray paint adds a romantic touch to this serpentine oak chest of drawers. While the paint was added later, the carved panel drawers, curved front, cabriolet feet and scalloped skirt are gently distressed adding to the vintage feel of the dresser. Expected age-related separation of wood is seen in the top and drawers, but does not impact the strength nor functionality of the dresser. A French raised two-drawer chest, with its original finish, from the early 19th century. This antique commode from France features a rectangular-shaped top, whose edge slightly overhangs the case beneather, which houses a pair of vertically stacked drawers, and is raised nicely from the ground on a pair of outwardly facing shapely legs at front (which terminate into petite hoof style feet), and straight legs at rear. Elaborate rococo hardware with centered escutcheons, adorn the drawer fronts. Recessed panels decorate the sides, and backside remains unfinished.
