Louis XVI Commode by Pierre Roussel
Located in New Orleans, LA
Matchless style and high-quality craftsmanship are the hallmarks of Pierre Roussel's furniture, and this exceptional Louis XVI-era commode epitomizes this master craftsman's skill. Crafted of rosewood veneer with a violet wood frame and intricate parquetry inlay, the cabinet's graceful design is also highly practical. The compact form holds two drawers, one of which can be locked for added security. A specimen of marble provides the perfect surface, while bronze ormolu mounts add an additional hint of luxury to the drawers and body. Elegantly curved cabriole legs with bronze ormolu shoes complete this impeccable piece. Known for his superior craftsmanship, Roussel was a highly respected maître ébéniste of the 18th century. His furniture pieces were favoured by grand patrons such as the Prince de Condé and the Princess of Monaco...

George III English Satinwood & Banded Bow Fronted Chest Commode Circa 1790
Located in Norwich, GB
A superb George III satinwood bow fronted four drawer chest/commode. English. Circa 1790. The commode chest has four long graduated drawers over a shaped apron, on splayed feet. It retains the original brass handles, which is rare. Veneered over solid oak in the finest quarter-sawn satinwood, banded in rosewood and mahogany, with boxwood stringing throughout. It has has been sympathetically re-finished, still retaining some authentic marks to highlight its genuine heritage. To the left hand side near the back there is some slight damage to the banding and a small piece of veneer has been re-glued back on near the escutcheon of the third drawer down. Please refer to the photographs. The drawers are lined in oak with handmade dovetail construction. The drawer sides have had slivers of oak added to make the drawers run better. The underside of the top has neat butterfly construction to the oak join, always a sign of a well made piece. There is no woodworm. Originally a commode occupied a prominent position in a house, not always for bedroom use...

The company made a name for itself when it hired Milo Baughman. They would go on to hire Swedish architect and designer Greta Magnusson-Grossman, the first woman to receive an award from the Swedish Society of Industrial Design. The significant furniture line she and Baughman designed called the California Modern Collection became known for its laid-back Los Angeles style and integration of walnut, iron, and Formica. Glenn of California collaborated with many notable designers including Kipp Stweart, Paul Laslo, John Kapel, & Stanley Young. Although Glenn of California is no longer in business, their high-end vintage furniture is sought after today. This fabulous vintage rosewood lingerie...

Louis XVI Style Ormolu Mounted Commode with Italian White Marble Top
Located in Miami, FL
A very fine quality Louis XVI Style ormolu-mounted commode or chest of drawers with an Italian white marble top that is truly breathtaking! Intricate inlaid marquetry design throughout, the front and sides of the piece as well. Remarkable attention to detail in the brass mounts and other hardware! This beautiful Louis XVI style ormolu-mounted commode inlaid with marquetry and parquetry of rosewood, satinwood, possibly amaranth and painted wood inlays, some similarities to the model by Jean-Henri Riesener, Circa 1880. The breakfront white marble top above a conforming moulded cornice and a pair of large deep drawers inlaid with a central foliate, flanked by lattice and patera-decorated panels, the sides with similar panels, the angles with acanthus-cast volutes, on scrolled acanthus feet. The white marble top with striations and veins coming through. Generously sized, the two spacious drawers are perfect for storing your belongings. Would enhance any bedroom, living room, foyer, entryway or office and will have your guests conversing amongst one another about the pure detail and craftsmanship used in order to make it. Embodied with a sense of luxury and glamour, this Louis XVI Style commode or chest of drawers can be paired with a variety of other styles you may already have in your home or place of choosing! Truly a show stopper and will certainly be a conversation starter at your next gathering! Would look wonderful with modern artwork hanging above and an 18th or 19th Century Mantel Clock (choose from our collection) on top of the white marble to further accentuate this beautiful piece of functional furniture. Very good condition with minor surface scratches and small blemishes, but no significant imperfections. Age appropriate wear. Dimensions: 23 1/2" Deep x 57" Wide x 38" High Bears the maker's mark on the back: Fratelli Catteneo About the maker: The company is from the historic Province of Como, home of highly skilled old world artisans, the exceptionally executed 18th century antique reproduction was hand-crafted in the mid-20th century, of very fine quality craftsmanship, detailing and solid wooden construction.
