Georgian 18th Century Mahogany Kneehole Desk
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A superb quality and extremely attractive 18th century, Chippendale period, georgian mahogany kneehole desk, having well figured rectangular top over slide, central cupboard and arrangement of drawers, retaining original rococo brass handles, raised on original shaped bracket feet.
Generally, kneehole deeks are regarded as a smaller, more compact version of the more typically found pedestal desk, with some form of an arrangement of drawers around a central set recessed cupboard being the form which one can expect to come across. There are of course various different designs to be found along the same theme, but as a general rule that is the form you will usually find in a georgian kneehole desk...

MINIATURE GEORGE III MAHOGANY TABLETOP DOCUMENT BOX
England, circa 1785
Item # 011BMA19P
An austere and rather interesting George III tabletop document box, the purity of structure, early oxidized surface and total lack of embellishment are most magnetic features. The open dovetail structure locks the dense mahogany primary woods of the case together. Two rows of two drawers are situated over a single large drawer, each with original bail pull hardware to match the handles on the sides of the case. The drawer construction is typical of the period with pine secondary woods carefully dovetailed at the joints and the drawer bottoms running perpendicular to the drawer face. The chest rests over untouched original bracket feet with original corner blocking.
It retains an old tag from Sumpter Priddy...

Condition report -
With the original patina and brass wear. There are some knocks and marks expected with a piece of this age. The beading on the drawers has some damage. The top has some polish loss in one place, you should be able to make this out in the photographs.

Georgian Yew Wood Miniature Chest of Drawers
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A charming and rare 18th century Georgian yew
wood miniature chest having four long drawers
with original brass knobs raised on original
shaped bracket feet.
(There is often debate as to whether miniature furniture was
made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who
is looking for a job at a workshop would create something to
showcase their talents, or whether it was made as a travelling
salesman's sample piece, which is when a few articles were
made as scale models in advance of a road trip during which a
salesman would travel the country showing prospective clients
the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and
take orders from. This particular example doesn't really appear
to quite fit either of those briefs however and may well have just
been made as an individual, one off piece in a provincial workshop.
One of the reasons for this is the construction from solid yewwood
which is a rarely used material in items any larger than this as the
trunks generally don't grow large enough. The overall quality is
excellent and clearly somebody has spent many, many hours
producing this wonderful piece. A really quite charming piece of
antique miniature furniture...

Rare George III Walnut and Mahogany Caddy-Top Bachelor’s Chest
