A beautiful and decorative commode in precious veneer-wood (Satin, Amaranth, Boxwood, Ebene) with inlaid herringbone frames, opening with five drawers, simulated fluted uprights. It rests on four small tapered legs. Gilded bronze ornamentation, including lock escutcheons, drawer pull rings, and clogs. Toped in grey Sainte-Anne's marble with a gorge. Measurements: H 33.46 In. - W 50.39 In. - D 21.65 In. Our French Louis XVI period commode is in good condition, is stamped by Jean Caumont (1736-1800), received Master on December 14, 1774. Biography: Jean Caumont Jean Caumont (1736 - 4 September 1800) - Paris. Master on December 14, 1774. National furniture Paris: gilded wood console, Louis XVI style, signed : J.Caumont et J.M.E. ? Jean Caumont, obtained his master's degree in Paris in 1774 and established his workshop and shop on rue Traversière in Paris. He took an active part in the French 1789 Revolution and was elected Justice of the Peace at the Commercial Court. His works, in the Transition and Louis XVI styles, show a great variety both in their manufacture and in the materials used. If we know of him cylinder desks, hot-water bottle tables, pedestal tables... Jean Caumont excelled above all in the manufacture of secretaries and chests of drawers. Their compositions, often sought-after, are elegant and full of finesse. We find, in its production, furniture with mahogany or satin veneer, and inlays of coloured wood, decorated with landscapes, flowers, branches, or musical instruments often finely inlaid with ivory or mother-of-pearl. Around 1795, Jean Caumont ceased his activities, and his son Claude Emmanuel succeeded him in his workshop.
