19th Century Italian Painted Credenza

About the Item

Credenza hand-made in Italy in the mid 1800s using pine. The credenza is pretty large and shows the typical Italian cantered corners style. Throughout the piece is decorated by using different types of molding and hand-carvings. The tops features two boards framed by chamfered molding hand carved with a toothed pattern typical of Italian furniture. The corners of both the top and the case are chamfered, and the doors, corners and sides are all made of chamfered inset panels framed by flat molding. On the front the case is decorated by two vertical carvings of leaves. The credenza features a single inset drawer on top of a two-door cabinet. On the inside all of the space is available for storage and the a shelf divided the space in two. This is a relatively large piece that, because of the chamfered corners can actually be placed in small areas and close to doors. The beautiful painted patina give it a very unique look and the alternation of light grey and dark grey in the molding and top provide it with balance and elegance. This is a piece that can be placed in a rustic setting as well as a more formal one and will provide plenty of storage, usable space.

18th Century Bleached Walnut Italian Credenza, Buffet, Sideboard
Located in Carmine, TX
Walnut credenza handcrafted in Italy in the mid 1700s and bleached recently. Don't let its delicate overall appearance fool you because, as my lower back can attest, this baby is heavy. This is a beautiful credenza that follow the typical italian style with slanted sides, which create small triangular storage spaces on either sides of the two main front doors and drawer. Overall the credenza is very straight in lines. The drawers have flat overlay fronts, and the doors show chamfered panels with a raised carving and are framed by flat molding. The carving and molding help giving the piece some depth and decoration. The bleaching process also provided the credenza with additional warmth, depth and decoration, by bringing out the beautiful grain and underlying colors of the wood. The top of the credenza is composed of boards with ogee edge nailed to the main case. On the inside the credenza is very spacious, providing plenty of storage space. Overall this is a beautiful piece that has lived a long life, and has received some help in "hanging in there" over the years. This is a piece that will fit well with both modern and...
