Art Deco Asymmetrical Credenza

About the Item

Early 20th century Art Deco period credenza of an impressive asymmetrical form and veneered in burl walnut. The primary case holds a flush cabinet with double doors that open to a storage cavity with a wide shelf below a pair of felt-lined drawers (the right drawer stacked two high). To the right of this cabinet, the case takes a dramatic curve towards the wall and holds a partially inset cube that opens to even more storage and a pair of adjustable shelves. The cube has a burl veneer in a butterfly pattern that is designed to contrast that of the primary case, seen in a vertical pattern. The streamlined look of the era is also indicative in the simplicity of the escutcheons versus overly decorative hardware. The original key works both locks. To further accentuate the asymmetry of the credenza, the left side is accented by an ebonized frame that runs vertically to the floor and then continues along the floor as the platform base. This is an excellent example of Art Deco furniture - simple, yet sculptural in form and designed to showcase the dazzling wood grains that are characteristic of the period. The credenza measures 31.25” tall x 74.75” wide x 19.75” deep along the case and 24” deep on the cube. This piece would be great to hold silver service and serving pieces or could easily be used as a home bar.

Replacements made: The shelf brackets (that support the wide shelf in the primary case) have been replaced. Wear consistent with age and use. Great antique condition with normal wear expected with use; shelving brackets replaced, some markings on table top of cube from use, wear to key escutcheons from use, felt in drawers is original.
