Late Renaissance 16th Century Italian Credenza.

About the Item

A striking example of Late Renaissance craftsmanship! This 16th-century Italian credenza was made in Tuscany circa 1570 and exhibits the bold architectural lines and refined ornamentation characteristic of the period. Hand-carved from dense Circassian walnut, this piece features molded lozenge panels on its doors and sides, creating a strong geometric dimension framed in classic Renaissance proportion. The credence is adorned with beautifully carved floral capitals flanking the single top drawer. Each ingeniously concealing a secret drawer, discreetly opened by pulling a peg beneath the apron. Below, two paneled doors with brass hardware open to a generous storage space. The base is enriched with gadrooned molding and rests on robust lion's paw feet, reinforcing its sculptural presence and anchoring the design with visual weight. The walnut retains a deep, warm patina developed over centuries, further enhancing its historical charm! An exceptional storage piece, ideal for entryways, dining rooms, or studies, this credenza blends Old World intrigue with timeless design!
