About the Item

This stunning Louis XV-style country sideboard, crafted from solid oak in the 19th century, offers a refined balance between rustic strength and delicate ornamentation. A rare and authentic piece, it captivates with the richness of its carvings and harmonious proportions. The sideboard opens with three molded doors – two smaller ones on the sides and a larger central one – topped by three dovetailed drawers, each featuring a gilt brass ring pull. The locks (replaced at a later date) are in perfect working order and come with three different keys. The escutcheons are finely decorated in solid brass with floral and geometric motifs. The visible brass hinges are also decorative, showcasing the attention to detail characteristic of traditional, high-quality cabinetmaking. The front panels are beautifully adorned: • Upper door rail: Decorated with carved cornucopias and floral motifs in relief, symbolizing abundance and natural beauty. • Vertical stiles: Fluted and embellished with acanthus leaves, accentuating the vertical lines with distinction. • Feet: Classic Louis XV snail feet, adding charm and graceful movement to the base. • Lower rail: Sumptuously carved with a central medallion in trelliswork, framed by foliage and garlands of flowers that run the full length of the piece—a testament to fine and harmonious craftsmanship. The top, also in solid oak, offers a generous and warm display surface, both practical and elegant. No restoration has been undertaken. The piece is in good condition—stable, sound, and ready for everyday use. This timeless sideboard comes from a wine estate in the Loire Valley and has been passed down through generations. It has been lovingly maintained over the years, regularly cleaned and waxed. Its soft and even patina invites the touch, telling the silent story of a well-loved and carefully preserved piece. This sideboard will complement both classic interiors and more eclectic settings, bringing a touch of timeless elegance to any space.
