Rorimer Brooks Cleveland Art Deco Moderne sideboard or Credenza

About the Item

Period Art Deco credenza stepped form skyscraper style in cream and matte black lacquer finish . Center section holds three shelves behind lacquered doors with white pulls mounted on round aluminum motifs . Either side cabinets have three drawers over a door in similar decoration . Rorimer Brooks is maybe the first American firm to design execute and install complete interiors . As well as one of the largest west of New York . Founded by Louis Rorimer becoming Rorimer Brooks in the early 20th century after merging with his competition the Brooks Household Arts company another interior design firm . Rorimer stated he was an artist first, a teacher second, and a businessman third, believing art was an essential ingredient in daily life. With this philosophy, he vigorously promoted and used the cleaner, more utilitarian designs of modern art, as opposed to Victorian styles. From 1918-36, Rorimer taught architural design at Cleveland school of Art .
