18th Century Country French Louis XVI China Buffet, Bookcase
About the Item
18th Century Country French Louis XVI China buffet ~ bookcase is a wonderful combination on ancient Greek and Roman classicism with rustic rural French craftsmanship! Rendered from old-growth white oak and forged steel, it features a stately rectilinear casework with boldly mitered corners, each meticulously molded to create fine visual interest from all angles. Side panels are simulated by cut grooves in the solid planks, with flutes cut into the mitered corners, across the entire drawer tier in front, and even at the bottom of the lower cabinet panels. Stylized foliage also appears at the top of the cabinet door panels for an artistic touch. Steel barrel hinges, drawer pulls and key guards add a nice touch, as do the eight hand-rolled glass panes of the upper tier which allow for viewing the interior contents. A relatively spacious preparation and serving area appears between the upper and lower tiers to add even more functionality and charm. Note the hand-hewn plank back side as a charming display of country craftsmanship!
