18th Century Painted Dutch Country Knockdown Cupboard

About the Item

A rare large and impressive 18th-century Dutch painted knockdown country cupboard has more than all the charm of Country French or Swedish cabinet. The paint work has been carefully delineated with green outlining red trim and cream panels on all three sides. The same shade of red boldly covers the interior shelves and walls. The pair of double doors decorated with painted red broken-arch pediments are cleverly hinged twice to prevent a too-wide-a swing when opened. The depth of the cupboard lends itself to hanging clothes on installed rods when some or all of the shelves are removed. One can think of all sorts of places in the house: A self-contained pantry or library? A bedroom without a closet? A house without a coat closet? The interior can be adapted according to specific requirements, with shelving, hanging space + shelves, hanging space only... Cabinet will come apart completely for ease of movement, something typical of Dutch furniture to accommodate the narrow space for moving large pieces of furniture.
