Large Continental Renaissance Revival carved wood credence cupboard, 19th century., having stepped cornice, over Dual cabinet doors with central mask motifs, above two drawers, with lion masks, winged cherubs, and floral swag, rising on turned and molded supports, on platform base, further raised on block feet, approximately 89" height, 77" width, 25" depth.
A cupboard, sideboard, or cabinet, particularly one intended for the display of rich vessels or plate on open shelves. 19th century designs combined classical architectural elements, such as columns, pediments, and caryatids with a rich vocabulary of Renaissance motifs, including scrolling foliage, strap-work, and mythical grotesque creatures as per Google!
Revival furniture simply refers to a furniture designer’s recovery of styles of the Past. The furniture and interior business of the 19th century saw an unprecedented series of revivals which brought back to vogue the styles characteristic of different historical periods.
