19th Century Decorated Alpine Cupboard
About the Item
Here we have a very good painted cupboard in untouched condition in original green paint ,with floral panels very typical of the area. The cupboard originates from the Tyrol and has its original hinges lock and key and turned feet. It has a removable cornice which is painted to resemble marble. The panels on the door are beautifully painted with a floral arrangement in a swagged garden urn. Along the top rail is written the name Madalena, the date, 1836, and another name Leoin. This is either a surname or the name of her husband. These cupboards may be marriage or dowry cupboards. The interior is original as is the whole of the piece.
