Baroque period cupboard niche painted in dark blue with secondary colors of gold, violet and pink. Dates early to mid-18th century and features built-in open domed cupboard. Dutch or French in origin with a marvelous sculptural quality. Interior dome features original painted shell motif and embellishments. Hand carved original scalloped-edge shelving includes plate rail contouring along its interior. Ready for installation or, with minimal modification, this niche can serve as a freestanding storage or display piece, for example to store towels in the bathroom.
