About the Item

Charles II Cedar Wood chest A 17th century Charles II cedar wood cushion fronted chest. The chest is smaller than usual and comes in two parts, the two door cupboard top has been converted from a hinged lid top. The chest has a cushion front to the panels and drawers with recessed panels to the sides that have moulded frames. The lower part of the chest has two long deep drawers with two concealed drawers in the shaped moulding above and another in the frieze between the two drawers. The drawers run on side runners and have original drop handles. The chest stands on four flat turned cedar wood bun feet. The chest is in good condition but with marks and dents from its 350 years of use. The chest has a very nice waxed finish, is a good colour and has the pleasant cedar wood aroma. As mentioned the chest has been modified, it would have had a hinged open top (the hinge is still there) but the top is fastened down and the front converted into a pair of doors with catches and a lock. (Circa 1670) Height 90cm (35.4 inches) Width 87cm (34.3 inches) Depth 55cm (21.7 inches).
