English Antique Oak Welsh Cupboard Cabinet, Early 20th Century

About the Item

A finely hand crafted piece, this English Welsh Cupboard was entirely bench made during the first quarter of the 20th Century. There is a well developed patina to the oak oak, being silky to the touch from years of waxing and gentle wear; the surface remains in gorgeous condition and lends a certain warmth in it’s dark golden hues. The cupboard features a highly active pierced and scroll cut crest over several shelves flanked by a pair of raised-panel cupboard doors and single drawers beneath them. The lower case features a trio of upper drawers, each with the tightly hand cut dovetailing exhibited in the upper drawers, over three cupboard doors that open to reveal a shelved interior. Being crafted in two parts, the cupboard is easily transported from one room to the next, and being a somewhat flexible design the cupboard is easily implemented into designs in the living room, dining room as a sideboard, a large library or study and even as a hallway console in a spacious entry. For anyone decorating in the English Country taste, this is a gorgeous piece of a classic form that has been cherished in homes for over two hundred years. Measurements: 19 1/4” D x 69” W x 78 1/2” H Condition Report: Molding where the upper section rests on the lower section is tight, a gap in the molding joint on the right side (right side piece of molding replaced). Surface is in beautiful condition with some finish loss around the base molding and feet, other light wear and blemishes, but overall remaining in very good condition. The drawers have old wallpaper in them, this probably something you will want to remove at some point. Overall excellent condition. POLYCHROMED WROUGHT-IRON AND SADDLE-LEATHER SAVONAROLA CHAIR With cerule form, probably early 20th century Item # 311ESB30P ** Sold individually, but we may have up to 4 of these chairs available ** A very compelling form, this classical "Savonarola" chair is crafted entirely by hand using forged iron that shows every trace of the blacksmith's work throughout the surface. They are in a cerule form with hammered spade feet, the legs joined with a central pivot point at the center of each cyma-curvature, this joint decorated with a wonderful iron rosette on both the front and back. The seat and seat-back are slung with leather that is affixed with rawhide lacing, the seat-back decorated with two beautifully formed finials with ruby-red and part gilt highlights to the surface. These are being sold individually, but we acquired these as a set of four and may still have several available. The images are of only one of the four chairs, but they are all identical in overall condition and form. Measurements: 33 1/2" H x 18 3/8" D x 26" W; 19 1/4" H to seat Condition Report: Distressed wrought-iron with loss to polychroming and part gilding throughout; incredibly strong and stable; leather is modern and in good condition with only minor wear.
