About the Item

A superb quality late 18th century Georgian mahogany secretaire cupboard having well figured and banded top over one secretaire drawer to frieze, enclosing attractive satinwood interior with arrangement of drawers and central cupboard plus faux suede writing surface, above two superbly figured panel doors enclosing sliding trays raised on original shaped bracket feet. (This charming and rather functional cupboard is extremely good quality and very well made. Designed originally for somebody to stand at and write it has real elegance for a relatively large piece of furniture. Although it is now in relatively good condition for its age and has been cleaned and polished in our workshops it has clearly had a lot of use over the years meaning that upon close inspection there are quite a few minor historic restorations, bumps, scrapes, repairs and losses. None of these things particularly detract from the piece and it's charm however and it would make a great addition to many rooms with a touch of 18th century sophistication thrown in.)

Georgian 18th Century Mahogany Kneehole Desk
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A superb quality and extremely attractive 18th century, Chippendale period, georgian mahogany kneehole desk, having well figured rectangular top over slide, central cupboard and arrangement of drawers, retaining original rococo brass handles, raised on original shaped bracket feet. Generally, kneehole deeks are regarded as a smaller, more compact version of the more typically found pedestal desk, with some form of an arrangement of drawers around a central set recessed cupboard being the form which one can expect to come across. There are of course various different designs to be found along the same theme, but as a general rule that is the form you will usually find in a georgian kneehole desk...

19th Century Biedermeier Nutwood Secretary Desk/ Secretaire, Austria ca. 1820/25
Located in Lichtenberg, AT
Splendid early 19th century Biedermeier secretaire/ secretary desk from the renowed period in Vienna/ Austria around 1820/25. A spectacular, early example of a Biedermeier secretary which has been venereed with finest mirror-matched nutwood, showing an extraordinary grain - just see how elegantly the grain pattern runs down from the top to the base without any visible interuption. This perfect sized Biedermeier secretaire impresses with its cambered worked doors, a drawer on the top and a fold-down writing surface. Influenced by the previous empire epoch, this superb, antique secretary is adorned by two beautifully worked full columns. When you fold down the lockable writing surface, the amazing designed interior opens up to the viewer´s eye: 9 small drawers and another large one on top, architecturally structured with ebonized column decoration and the still original mirror (unfortunately cracked - see picture#18) in the back. Artfully worked brass applications with lion heads finalize the spectacular look. Traditionally hand polished with ruby shellac, which gives the surface this lovely slight red brown tone, this breathtaking early Biedermeier secretary...
