About the Item

19th Century Louis XV-Style Stripped Oak Buffet from Liège, Belgium Circa 1880 Dimensions: Height: 116 cm (45.7 in) × Width: 183 cm (72 in) × Depth: 54 cm (21.3 in) A beautifully crafted buffet deux-corps from Liège, Belgium, dating to the late 19th century and designed in the elegant Louis XV style. Made from solid oak and recently stripped to its natural tone, this piece reveals the authentic grain and texture of the wood, giving it a soft, timeless appeal. The façade is richly ornamented with hand-carved floral motifs, rococo-style cartouches, and scrolled moldings, typical of the Liège school’s distinctive craftsmanship. The upper section features three drawers with original brass hardware, finely molded and framed, resting above three panelled doors, each adorned with deeply carved floral medallions and shaped borders. A central vertical panel between the doors showcases additional floral reliefs and decorative scrollwork, lending balance and symmetry to the overall design. The base is gently scalloped and carved with leafy scrolls and floral rosettes, resting on short cabriole feet with volute detailing and block toes. This piece combines practical storage capacity with ornamental finesse, making it ideal as a statement piece in a dining room, hallway, or living space. The stripped oak patina works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary interiors, offering warmth, character, and a touch of classical elegance. Condition: Very good antique condition with minor wear consistent with age and use. The structure is sound, and the wood shows a well-preserved surface with natural patina and traces of age.
