About the Item

Typologically, the present piece has a shape that recalls certain Renaissance works (especially the buffet) with variations already customary in pieces of the 19th century. As for the decoration, centred on the front, the influence of Spanish Gothic art is clear both in the theme and in the composition: sculptures on pedestals and the clothing of the figures, the compositions of the drawers, the presence of these panels with "napkin" sizes, panels with stems and grapes, letters, fine columns, etc. Also, it is possible to appreciate a certain air coming from Neoclassicism, habitual style in the 19th century. At this time it was usual to be inspired by styles of the past to make outstanding furniture, such as the present. Although the Neo-Gothic used to be used more frequently for ecclesiastical works, it was not absent from important residences and other institutions, since it is one of the favourite styles at that time. It is possible to find examples that remind this closet in museums such as the Romanticism of Madrid, the National Decorative Arts of the same city, etc." Size: 50 x 132 x 170 cms.
