About the Item

Stunning postmodern masterpiece by 57" tall x 26" wide x 10" deep. Borne out of the same Arts & Crafts "studio" inspiration that gave us Wendell Castle and to some extent Dakota Jackson, came the Massachusetts artist, Jay Stanger. Since the late 1970s, Jay Stanger has been creating functional artwork. All of his pieces are handmade, one of a kind, on commission pieces. Both in his furniture design and architectural sculpture, Stanger's work has broken the barriers between Fine art and Craft. The result is a unique synthesis of geometry, movement, color and emotion. His signature style combines natural woods and unusual veneers. He has termed is movement the "modern method movement." This is an Otto Binx Year-end Clearance Sale Listing. The final Markdown price listed here is per item and firm. First come, first served. No holds. clearance items tend to move quickly. Please do not hesitate if interested. Stanger works are included in the permanent collection of 100's of museum around the globe, including (but not limited to) the following: Museum of Modern Art, New York The de Young Museum, Dorothy and George Saxe collection of contemporary crafts, San Francisco, CA Smithsonian Institute, Renwick Gallery, Washington, DC Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI Condition: Good vintage condition with patina. Some scuffs and scratches add character. There seems to be a missing little shelf (about 7") in size near the bottom left, but we are not sure if there was meant to be a shelf there as each of Mr. Stanger's works are singular. Each work by Mr. Stanger was for a private patron and many of his larger works, such as this one, would have cost anywhere from 25-40,000 USD.
